VIDEO: In 2003 I went to cowl my first Tour de France as a part of the press. PEZ had nearly no readers and even much less cash, so I rented the most affordable automotive I may discover. I drove it for two weeks and 2500km throughout France from Lyon east to the Alps, throughout the south and into the Pyrenees through Andorra, dodging and weaving as far west as Lourdes, after which all the way in which again to Lyon. It was one of many hottest summers on document in France – when the mercury tickled 40C levels day by day for weeks.

The automotive was tiny and had no a/c, however I managed to seize a few of it on video. Right here’s an important little snapshot of Pez earlier than we turned PEZ. Let’s set the Means Again machine for Lyon, France, July 2003.
